PORN DOWNLOADED TO SABOTAGE BOSS A judge has reduced the jail sentence of David Peter Allan Jubb, 24, a former employee of a leading Christian childcare provider, Communicare, accepting the man's defence that he downloaded child pornography to sabotage his boss' career. Jubb was sentenced in September by magistrate Robert Abood to 12 months' jail after downloading more than 100 pornographic images on to a laptop computer issued by his employer, Communicare. The photographs and short films depicted naked girls aged between 4 and 15 engaged in sexual acts with adults. Some of the films showed young girls being raped while unconscious. How a pedophile priest destroyed a boy's life Helen Watson vividly remembers the day, 25 years ago, that marked the beginning of her son Peter's tragic end. Peter Watson was a student at Marian College Ararat where, in the presbytery next door, lived pedophile priest Father Paul David Ryan. Ms Watson yesterday recalled the day when Ryan drove Peter home to their farm after the boy, then 15 or 16, had spent the night in town at the presbytery and reeked of alcohol. "Later that day I looked out the window and my son was up the paddock throwing trees I would have thought no person could physically lift". He was throwing huge logs and building a big bonfire. When I got there he was an absolute mess. He was crying and screaming and told me to go away and wouldn't tell me what was wrong. "Peter was never the same after that." Her son later told her Ryan showed blue movies to boys at the presbytery and gave them alcohol. Ryan pleaded guilty at Warrnambool Magistrates' Court on Friday to five charges of indecently assaulting two other teenage boys at Penshurst in 1989-90, two years before he was moved to Ararat. Ms Watson this year got a written apology from Bishop Peter Connors of the Ballarat diocese. But she can neither forgive nor forget. She had been a practising Catholic all her life, but I has totally lost her faith. There was evidence the church knew of Ryan's tendencies before he was ordained in 1976, she said. Ms Watson said Peter was a troubled soul who could not come to grips with his abuse. He used drugs, abandoned sports, led a transient life and tried to kill himself. By the time he was 24, he was at a Ballarat psychiatric unit. He absconded in March 1999 and his mother never saw him alive again. Peter was found hanged in an Aspendale bayside bathing box six months later. It was six years before his body was identified after a check of fingerprint records. PORN DOWNLOADED TO SABOTAGE BOSS Alan John Vella, 24, a former Year 5 Catholic primary teacher, sent short movie files of child pornography to others he met in an internet chatroom, the District Court was told. Vella was caught with about 30 images showing children aged 9 to 14 in sexual poses and acts. He had paid for access to 2 child pornography websites and sent 10 to 12 short movie files to 3 or 4 people he met in a child pornography chatroom He pleaded guilty to 1 count of supplying and 2 counts of possessing child pornography. Prosecutor Michael Perrella said the images were used for sexual gratification. Judge Shauna Deane released Vella on bail for sentence on April 1 and said a jail term was the only appropriate sentence. |
